Final
Worcester State: 1
Bridgewater State: 5
How it Happened:
The Lancers opened strong in a quick first inning, but Bridgewater State managed to get ahead early with a run in the bottom of the first. The next two innings showed solid effort offensively from both sides, though neither team was able to capitalize. Junior Gavin Price (Worcester, MA) started on the mound for the Lancers and pitched through the first two innings before sophomore Jack Hildred (Bellingham, MA) came in at the start of the bottom of the third to pitch the next few innings. The Bears added another run on the board to keep the lead 2-0 in the third.
Worcester stayed resilient and responded in the top of the fourth as junior Kevin Doyle (Bridgewater, MA) sparked momentum with a single to right field. He worked his way around the bases until senior Nathan Thurber (Framingham, MA) came up with a clutch single to left field bringing Doyle home, putting the Lancers on the board 2-1.
Both teams held the score through the next two innings with Worcester State's defense staying controlled as the offense continued to threaten. Bridgewater State managed to add another run in the sixth, extending their lead 3-1, while the Lancers stayed competitive on both sides of the ball.
Senior Nolan Turner (Barnstable, MA) came in to pitch for the Lancers in the bottom of the seventh. The Bears capitalized again pushing two more runs across the plate before Worcester could close out the inning, leaving the score at 5-1. The eighth inning saw persistence from both teams keeping the energy up defensively heading into the last inning.
The Lancers continued to battle at the plate in the top of the ninth, but ultimately were unable to generate additional plays offensively. Worcester's effort shined throughout the match up although the game concluded with a score of 5-1.
