Final
Worcester State: 3
Bethel: 15
How it Happened:
Worcester State got started fast again in their meeting with Bethel as some errors and passed balls would bring sophomore Riggs Catlin (Dedham, MA) in for the opening run in the first inning.
It was a quiet second for the teams but the Royals turned on their offense in the third as they worked in seven runs to claim the 7-1 control of the game. The bottom of the inning found Worcester working to cut into the deficit as senior Nathan Thurber (Framingham, MA) would single to left field to send across Catlin for Worcester's second of the game.
Bethel would keep their scoring alive in the fourth as they stole their way home for the 8-2 lead. Before the close of the inning the Royals would claim the 10-2 lead. The Lancers would grab a run back at the bottom of the inning as a Catlin ground out would bring junior Ryan Jewett (Natick, MA) in for run three.
The Royals would wrap up the fifth with five additional runs and Worcester would be unable to cut into the lead, falling in five innings 15-3.
Final
Worcester State: 4
Bethel: 5
How it Happened:
Bethel would continue their offensive success in game two claiming three runs in the bottom of the third to claim the early 3-0 lead. An additional run would be added for the Royals in the bottom of the third to set the score at 4-0.
The top of the fourth found sophomore Derek De La Cruz (Providence, RI) being awarded a bases loaded walk for an RBI that brought first year Rusbert Martinez (Bani, DR) across home for their Lancers first run of the game. Jewett would then single to the left fielder for first year Boris Valdez (Worcester, MA) and junior Tad Giardina (Reading, MA) to cross the plate to close the gap to 4-3. Giardina would not be done with the scoring yet though as he nailed a solo homer at the top of the sixth to tie the game up at 4-4.
Bethel would reclaim the lead at the bottom of the sixth, scoring a single run that Worcester would try to equal in the seventh, but would ultimately fail to do so, falling 5-4 in game two action.
