Final
Worcester State: 2
Eastern Connecticut: 4
How it Happened:
It would be an exciting game one with the Warriors and Lancers as it would be a battle in the diamond between the two teams. Eastern Connecticut would grab the first run at the top of the second but it would not be long before Worcester responded. A single by sophomore Riggs Catlin (Dedham, MA) would help junior Derek De La Cruz (Providence, RI) tag home plate to tie the score. The bottom of the fifth would again see Catlin as the catalyst, this time with a sacrifice fly to right field to bring in junior Kevin Doyle (Bridgewater, MA) for the 2-1 lead.
Worcester pitching would work to secure the game but a second homer for the Warriors was enough to claim the 4-2 in the game one meeting. Sophomore Jack Hildred (Bellingham, MA) would go for six innings, striking out seven.
Final
Worcester State: 3
Eastern Connecticut: 9
How it Happened:
The second game of the set found slower bats for the Lancers as the Warriors spread out their early offense through the second and third innings for a quick 8-0 lead. Worcester would work their mound and bullpen to steady the momentum, holding them scoreless until a single shot in the sixth found Eastern Connecticut's ninth run. Worcester State would come to the plate in the seventh aiming for a comeback getting a base runner on early with one out when sophomore Isaiah Weston (Essex, MA) was hit by the pitch. An additional runner was added with two outs as senior Mason Bates (Shrewsbury, MA) singled to left field. De La Cruz would grab a walk to load the bases as Catlin nailed a double to send all three home for the 9-3 score. The last out came quicker then Worcester hoped in their bid though, falling 9-3 in game two.
Senior Jack Pawlich (Rocky Hill, CT), junior Rusbert Martinez (Bani, DR), senior Joe Auger (Lowell, MA) and sophomore Bobby Winkler (Longmeadow, MA) combined on the mound for three strikeouts and nine runs.
What's Next:
The Lancers return to action after a day break as they take on F&M in a double seven showdown.
