Worcester, MA- In their second game of the season, and first of their Davenport, Florida Spring break run, the Worcester State Baseball team (0-1, 0-0) will face off against the Benedictine Eagles in a pushed up start as both teams looked to avoid the afternoon showers.
Final
Worcester State: 1
Benedictine: 3
How it Happened:
The Eagles would net the first run of the game and get the action started early in the first inning. It would be a quiet second and third for both programs before junior Tyler Normandie (Lowell, MA) took the sacrifice fly deep, sending across junior Kevin Doyle (Bridgewater, MA) to tie the game 1-1 in the third. The Eagles and Lancers would each have their chances, but Worcester was not as lucky as Benedictine as they were unable to scrounge the three additional runs needed to take down the Eagles, falling 3-1 in the Spring Break opener.
Sophomore Matt Direnzo (Leicester, MA) would grab the game start, going four four innings and allowing two runs.
What's Next:
With the conclusion of the Spring Break opener the Blue and Gold (0-2, 0-0) remain in action to take on UMass-Dartmouth for a further pushed up afternoon battle.
