Final
Worcester State: 6
Springfield: 12
How it Happened:
The Pride would jump out early on the Lancers, scoring two runs in the first inning and a homer for three further runs in the second. Junior Derek De La Cruz (Providence, RI) would grab his first RBI in the third inning to send in junior Ryan Jewett (Natick, MA) to begin Worcester's run collection. Junior Alan Carpenter (Richmond, RI) singled to left field to send across junior Kevin Doyle (Bridgewater, MA) followed by a single to center by junior Tyler Normandie (Lowell, MA) who would bring home sophomore Riggs Catlin (Dedham, MA). Worcester would bring the game to within one in the fourth as De La Cruz would force the walk on loaded bases to again bring Jewett home for RBI number two.
The bottom half of the fourth and sixth inning would find Springfield again push out their lead, this tie to four runs, but the ever persistent Lancers were ready for the challenge. Senior Nathan Thurber (Framingham, MA) would be the next to force a walk on bases loaded allowing Catlin to cross the plate and junior Cameron Early (Worcester, MA) would take the sacrifice to center field for Carpenter to grab run number six. Sadly the scoring run ran dry in the sixth for Worcester and turned on for the pride who worked in four more runs in the bottom of the seventh for the 12-6 victory.
What's Next:
Worcester State (0-1,0-0) now shifts their focus to Florida where they will be headed for their week long, 10 game stretch in Davenport, FL. The Lancers currently begin their break with a 10:45am meeting with Benedictine on March 15th.
