Lancers Come up Big in the Ninth for Win over Mass. Maritime

Worcester, MA- With the final series on the clock, the Worcester State Baseball team (22-11, 11-7) looks to continue their winning ways with an opening nine-inning win over Mass. Maritime in a series that has significant final seeding implications. If Worcester is able to sweep the Buccaneers they are able to put themselves in place for a second seed showing in the MASCAC playoffs.

How it Happened:

Sophomore Tyler Normandie (Lowell, MA) would open up the scoring with a double to center field that would send across senior Tyler Smith (Leominster, MA) for the 1-0 lead in the first. The game would remain set at that score until the Buccaneers would find two in the sixth. Worcester would come away with three in the seventh for the 4-2 lead as first year Riggs Catlin (Dedham, MA) would hit a three run homer that would bring in sophomore Ryan Jewett (Natick, MA) and senior Xavier Quezada (Providence, RI) along with him. 

Mass. Maritime would find another run in the bottom of the seventh  before the Lancers really put a dent into their lead in the ninth as a Smith single to left field would send in Junior Nathan Thurber (Framingham, MA) and Catlin followed up by a first year Jack Savio (Andover, MA) homer to bring along Smith for the 8-3 lead. Mass. Maritime would claim one more run before the Lancers would close out the game with an 8-4 lead. 

What's Next:

Worcester State (22-11, 12-7) is right back in action tomorrow at 2pm as they welcome the Buccaneers to Kevin D. Lyons Diamond to close out the regular season and battle for final conference seeding.
