Final
Worcester State: 4
Fitchburg State: 11
How it Happened:
The first two innings saw no scores for both teams, with the Lancers getting two hits against the four hits that the Falcons recorded. In the third inning, first-year Riggs Catlin (Dedham, MA) connected with a three-run home run that put the Lancers on the board first. Junior Nathan Thurber (Framingham, MA) walked in a run due to the loaded bases on a fourth ball. First year Jack Savio (Andover, MA) would add to the action with a single into the outfield to send across two more runs for the Lancers, then at the very next at bat senior Xavier Quezada (Providence, RI) got a single, which tallied in one last run to end the inning with the Lancers atop 7-0 going into the fourth inning. The fourth inning would see no change in score. In the bottom of the fifth Savio would get a two-base hit, running in another run, increasing the lead for the Lancers to 8-0 going into the fifth inning.
A rain delay would force a pause in the game to be resumed six days later at Fitchburg State prior to their scheduled double header that afternoon.
The game would pick up right where it left off in the bottom of the sixth inning, however, now in Fitchburg, where Thurber would be able to get to home plate from third base from a pickoff attempt at second base. Shortly after that, first-year Christopher Mondesir (Roslindale, MA) would get a hit into left field that would result in another score to increase the score to 10-0 going into the top of the seventh. The Falcons would record one at the top of the seventh, but Worcester would answer back at the bottom of the eighth as senior Anthony Iamarone (Providence, RI) would send one deep over the left field fence. Mondesir would try to add another with a triple that flirted with the right field foul line before falling but the Lancers were unable to bring him home. The Falcons would register 4 runs in the top of the ninth, but that would not be enough and the Lancers would win the game 11-5, going into their regularly scheduled double header against Fitchburg this afternoon.
What's Next:
The Blue and Gold (17-9, 8-5) will bounce right back into action before journeying to Salem on Friday to begin a new series versus the Vikings.
