GAME 1 - Salve Regina 2, Worcester State 1
Salve Regina came out on top in a game one pitchers' duel, outlasting the Lancers by a final score of 2-1.
Worcester State was the designated road team for the opener, as the game was originally scheduled to be played at Salve Regina on April 15.
The Lancers got on the board first in the top of the first inning without even recording a hit. After Cooper Bigelow (Leominster, Mass.) led off the inning with a walk, senior Michael Ferrara (Easton, Mass.) drove him in on a groundout to put Worcester State on top.
Salve Regina quickly got the run back in the bottom of the first inning, as freshman Jake Betts (Narragansett, R.I.) drove in a run on an RBI groundout to third base.
Neither team would score again until the bottom of the fifth inning, when Salve Regina took the lead for good on an RBI single from junior Hunter Parker (Marion, Mass.).
Tom Beliveau (West Newbury, Mass.) got the win for Salve Regina, allowing just the one earned run on three hits while striking out eight Lancers. Worcester State's Joey Zawisza (Newington, Conn.) took the loss with a complete game, allowing two earned on five hits.
GAME 2 – Salve Regina 5, Worcester State 1
Salve Regina's pitching continued to stifle Worcester State in game two, as the Seahawks were able to close out the host Lancers to complete the sweep.
With his team already ahead 1-0 in the top of the third inning, Salve senior Colton Eremian (Boca Raton, Fla.) delivered a key two-run double to left field, putting his team ahead 3-0 and putting the visitors firmly in the driver's seat.
Worcester State got one run back in the bottom of the fifth inning on a Bigelow sacrifice fly, cutting the deficit to 3-1.
A two-run, two-out single from junior Dylan Ketch (Clinton, Conn.) in the top of the sixth put the contest all but out of reach in favor of the Seahawks. Relief pitcher Zach Dionne (Tolland, Conn.) slammed the door shut for the Seahawks with two shutout innings to secure the victory.
Kyle Cravatis (Beverly, Mass.) took the loss for Worcester State, allowing two earned runs on four hits in four innings pitched. The win was credited to freshman Jacob Simon (Tolland, Conn.), throwing five innings and allowing one earned on six hits.
Worcester State will return to action on Friday with a road matchup at Salem State University.
