The Trailblazers got off to a decent start as the duo of Mariza Sfakianaki (Williamstown, Mass.)  and Sam Gawron (South Hadley, Mass.) earned a point in the top doubles slot by dispatching the team of Lauren Taylor (Attleboro, Mass.) and Alexis Silk (Greenfield, Mass.), 8-5.  Worcester State would claim the next two doubles matches in convincing fashion as they rolled 8-1 in the second spot and 8-2 in the third to take a 2-1 edge into singles play.

Sfakianaki gave Taylor all she could handle, but ultimately Taylor would get revenge and earn a hard fought point 4-6, 7-5, 11-9.  Nathalie Khafaga (Auburn, Mass.) took the second doubles match 6-3, 6-2 over Gawron to give the Lancers the lead. Silk, Rachel Green (Worcester, Mass.), Monika Mularski (Auburn, Mass.), and Victoria Konicki (Auburn, Mass.) all earned straight set wins to close out the scoring.

"No. 2 and 3 doubles played strong and solid matches today, dominating at net and playing steady in the back court,"  said head coach Courteney Blais. "Valerie did a great job setting up Isabel up at net today, and Nathalie and Rachel worked well as a team to earn their win."

Blais commented on singles play, "The bottom half of our singles line up had quick wins with their consistent yet aggressive style of play. Nathalie had a rematch with her opponent she lost to last year, and walked away with a win this afternoon. It was great to see her take control of the net and put away the ball.

"Lauren "LT" Taylor had the marathon match of the day,"  mentioned Blais.  "The first set slipped away from her too quickly, but she battled back with a 7-5 second set win and continued the fight into a third set tie breaker of 11-9 well past sunset. "

Worcester State returns to the courts on Monday, September 11 when they travel to Leicester to take on Becker.
