Westfield, MA --- 78 Worcester State student-athletes have been tabbed to the 2013 MASCAC Fall All-Academic team as announced by media relations director Emily Diekelmann.
474 honorees were selected overall as the Lancers had the third-highest sum earn the prestigious accolade. The total number of WSU student-athletes also marked the highest since the league began listing its all-academic honor roll on a season-by-season basis during the 2009-10 academic year.
To earn a spot on the MASCAC All-Academic Team, a student-athlete must have achieved a 3.20 cumulative or semester-based grade point average during their semester of competition.
“The coaches and staff take great pride in the academic success of our student-athletes,” said Interim Director of Athletics John Meany. “It is a testament to the focus and dedication of our students as they manage their time in pursuing both academic and athletic excellence.”
Among Worcester State sports, six out of the eight on the women’s cross country team were recognized as they posted the highest grade point average this past fall (3.45).
16 out of 25 received accolades on the women’s soccer team (3.15 GPA) and nine out of 11 women’s tennis student-athletes (3.44 GPA) earned laurels as both squads topped their respective sports with the most MASCAC. The men’s golf team led all male sports with a 3.11 grade point average during the last semester.
Over the next two weeks the Worcester State athletics department will announce its individual fall athletics teams for their outstanding achievements in the classroom this past semester.
